Hello! I’m Allie, and I’m one of the admins here at STH. Before I get started, let’s just note that if you ever have any questions about role-playing or the forum in general feel free to message Steph, my co-admin, or me. We don’t bite, promise! I’m going to keep these as simple as I can, but please, please read them through thoroughly before you join. Rules are annoying and we all hate them, but we’re pretty easy-going here so they shouldn’t be all too painful.
First and foremost, keep all of your drama in character! It’s not fun at all when people bring OOC drama into play, and really it just ruins things. We, as in the admins, will always be there for help when it comes to this though and you should feel free to contact us given the circumstance that someone is bothering you. We also need people to cooperate with us because we work really hard into making this a fun experience for everybody, and we do have final word on things. We are fair people, so please be fair to us. More importantly though, just have fun. When we need to worry about important things, we will – but role-play is an outlet. We shouldn’t make it a stress source.
Graphics aren’t really worth a full paragraph but do not let your signature exceed 500 pixels in width, and anything taller than 400px is a little much but it’s not incredibly important there. As for the icons/avatars, 150 px width is the limit and 200 height.
Proboards has been really cracking down on the PG-13 rule of content. Swearing and whatever else is fine – just try to keep the gore, sex, and other things to what you’d see in a PG-13 movie. This mostly has to do with threading, because what characters say isn’t all too important. If you want to play out something on the sketchier side, take it somewhere else. We just really don’t want to get shut down.
Threading rules are all pretty simple. We have a word count of 300 and we expect people to follow it. Everybody has their off days and that’s okay, we won’t jump on you if you barely miss it but we will if it becomes a regular thing for you. Godmodding is also a no-no. That’s basically where you decide what the other character is doing. It’s okay if it’s a little thing and you ask the other person before you do it – but like I said, there has to be permission. Also, for activity reasons, be sure that you do post at least once monthly per character, with an actual thread, not an IM thread or texting thread. Logging in with all your accounts as often as you can is also very, very important!
Claims should all be wrapped in code unless said otherwise. If you don’t know how to do that, you just take the asterisk out of [*code][/code*] and put the code we provide between them. As far as reservations go, they can only last a week unless permission is given by an admin and you have to have a valid reason.
The only place you should ever post before being accepted is in the claims for a reservation in the face claim, but only if it’s a reservation. You may not claim your face / activity / secret before acceptance. Also, be sure that if you post a wanted ad that you claim the face you want and link to the wanted ad; there’s a code for it and everything. If someone not involved in the plot takes the face claim you wanted and you didn’t claim it, there’s nothing we can do. But this way it both advertises the wanted face and it reserves it.
We are not currently allowing any more teenage pregnancy / child plots or people who have them already. Local’s and faculty members may have children, but for the time being there shouldn’t be anymore high school students with them. When the ban lifts, we are going to require admin approval for that and now require it for suicide attempts, death, and other major things because it’s just not realistic to have a bunch of suicides, deaths, marriages, and pregnancies in one high school. Once the seniors graduate and the site expands into a college and high school town site, things will be a little different but admin approval will still be required. We love drama just as much as you do, but we want to keep a handle on it.
