It had been a little over a week since Jude had seen Katy face to face, ever since the back to school night meeting. Jude had been texting and calling Katy multiple times, but she hadn’t replied or answered any of his attempts. He knew he fucked up and he knew she probably hated his guts and assumed the worst. He knew exactly what it looked like and he hated himself for not telling her before, he was going to, he swore. These past few days had been killing him though, he missed Katy and he hated knowing that she was sitting somewhere hating him. There was something between them, something stronger than he had ever had with anyone, and he knew he couldn’t let her go. He was well aware that she probably needed some space, hell, she was probably moving on while he was stressing out about what she thought of him. He had to stop himself from stopping by her place, it was too soon, and if he wanted to keep his face presentable, he knew he had to stay away from an angry woman.

It had started to feel like too long and he really n eeded to exaplain himself and see her, he found himself on her doorstep at a reasonable hour, knocking lightly. He didn’t say anything at first, but when he heard her at the other end, he had to speak, ”Katy, It’s jude… please let me explain.. its not what you think,” he called out through the door. He felt like he was a cheating boyfriend or something as the words left his mouth, ”please,” he pleaded, he really couldn’t let this girl go, he needed her to know that everything between them was genuine and real. He really liked her, he did, ”Just 10 minutes of your time, please” he added, just trying to buy anytime he could with her. He didn’t know what he’d do if she wouldn’t let him in, hell, he didn’t even know what he’d say if she did let him in. He needed to speak to her though, he was going to lay it all out on the table.

Katy felt numb. Ever since she found out about Jude and his family, the one he hadn't told her about, she felt numb. She continued to do her daily activities, like teaching, but she didn't remember any of it. Her days mainly consisted of going to school and coming home where she proceeded to either cry, eat ice cream, or do music. Most of the time, it was a combination of the three.

It had been a little over a week since she had last seen Jude. He constantly called and texted her, but she ignored them. She was angry. That, and she didn't know what to say. What was she supposed to say to the guy that she really liked who was just lying to her? She sighed gently as she stood up from the chair in her studio and headed out to the kitchen to get some water.

As she was nearing the kitchen, she heard a light knock on the door. She raised her eyebrow lightly, wondering who it was. She wasn't expecting anyone today. She walked over to it and was about to open when she heard Jude speak. Of course it would be him. She should have known. She sighed gently as she listened to him talk on the other side. She didn't know what to do. Should she let him in?

She sighed again and looked down at her outfit of choice, pajamas and cat slippers with her hair in a messy ponytail. It was far from her clean appearances that Jude was used to seeing. Still, it was Saturday and she had no plans that day. She could lounge around in her pajamas all day if she wanted to, right?

After a few minutes, Katy reached forward and turned the door knob, opening the door. She was momentarily caught off guard by the appearance of Jude. He still looked as hot as she remembered. After a few seconds, she was finally able to speak. "Ten minutes," She told him as she turned on her heel and walked back into her apartment, indicating that he should follow. She wasn't going to talk to Jude on the porch where her neighbors could hear.

Jude wasn’t sure where he was going to begin, the main thing was to get her to talk to him and let him explain though. She wouldn’t take his calls, so he had to show up; he had waited a good amount of time, didn’t he? At first she didn’t say anything, but he heard her on the other side, he was starting to worry that she wouldn’t give him the time. The past few days had been hell, he hadn’t even been able to concentrate on work, he was so off. His wife was gone again, which was preferred anyways, but his kids were starting to see a change in his actions. He lied to them of course, blaming it on work stress, but they knew something was off with him. His brother had moved out too, so that didn’t help either, but Jude knew that Max had a better job opportunity where he was relocated.

He was about to say ‘please’ again, but before he could manage to get the word out, the door knob turned and the door was opening. He stepped back and let his eyes fall on Katy finally, even if she was in her lounging around the house attire, she still looked just as he remembered. He stared back at her, waiting for her to say something, unsure if she wanted him to say something first. He had fear in his eyes as he looked back at her, he was scared of how this was all going to go down. ’Ten minutes’ she said finally and let him inside, he closed the door behind him, relieved that she was at least giving him the chance to explain himself. When the time seemed right to begin, he took a breath, ”Look, I know what it looks like… “ he wasn’t sure how to word everything, but he had to get it out. ”Yes, I’m married… and yes, I have two children… “ he confirmed, ”but I’m not… with her… we’ve been separated for the last two years… it’s just that…nobody knows…” he said hoping that didn’t sound too strange, but knowing it sounded like a lie.

”we’re trying to keep it from our kids until… they graduate at least… and she doesn’t even live here, she lives in New York, our kids just think she’s working a lot…” he tried explaining. ”I swear, we’re not really together… we just put up this facade for the kids.” He probably sounded desperate but that was because he was, he needed her to believe him, to understand the whole situation. ”I didn’t want you to find out that way… I was going to tell you,” he said, hoping she was believing everything he was saying, he was telling the truth. He knew it was a fucked up situation but that’s how things were in his life, complicated. ”I didn’t mean to hurt you, like that,” he said keeping his distance, wanting to give her space, but the look on his face said it all. He truly felt bad about everything and he was being as honest as he could be.

Katy couldn't help but mentally kick herself when she let Jude in. She honestly did not know why she had let him in, especially with how mad she was at him. Though, if she had to guess, that was probably one of the main reasons she had let him in. If she lost her cool and hit him or something, there would be no witnesses. Plus, she knew how nosy her neighbors were and didn't want them eavesdropping on her conversation.

Once she was far enough away from him, what she declared a safe distance at least, she finally turned around to face him. Her arms immediately crossed over her chest as she looked at him. She didn't know what to say. Should she say something at all? He was the one that hurt her. He should be the one that spoke first. He did come to see her after all.

Katy couldn't help but roll her eyes at his words. She wasn't sure whether to believe him or not. She didn't even know how to respond to that. What was someone supposed to say when the guy they were seeing admits that he is married with two kids? She sighed gently when he actually finished his whole spiel. She still didn't know what to say to him.

She remained silent for a few minutes as she looked at him. After a few more minutes, she let out another breath. "Why didn't you just tell me that in the first place, Jude?" She asked him as she ran a hang over her hair. "I mean, how is this whole thing supposed to make me feel? God, what do people think of me now? You are married for Pete's sake." She really didn't know what to say or do. She was still in shock and hated being in this situation.

Jude wasn’t sure how this situation would turn okay, especially with him being married and all. He wasn’t sure if she was buying his story, but it was the truth and it was all he had to offer. He waited impatiently for a response from her, he could feel his palms starting to sweat. He had never been so into a girl and so desperate to be forgiven, but he knew he fucked up and it was his own fault. His eyes never left her, his full attention was on her. He needed to fix this, even if he had no idea how on earth he could. He wanted to be with Katy, but he had to play along with the whole marriage thing, at least for his kids. The silence that followed seemed longer than it was and it killed him as the seconds went by, he could only wish to know what was going through her mind right now.

”that’s not exactly what you tell a girl when you first meet them,” he replied, ”plus, even if I did, I didn’t know how you’d react… most girls saw ‘wife and kids’ as a red flag… I couldn’t risk losing you so quickly… I had just met you and I was… “ he ran his fingers through his hair as he took a moment, ”I was scared of how you’d react, katy,” he finally said. He felt bad and you could see it on his face, especially as she went on about how it was supposed to make her feel. ”I know, I’m sorry… it’s not fair… but I don’t want to lose you… i… what do you want me to do? We only kept this façade up because jen didn't want the kids to know… but… I don’t know… I don’t want you to feel like that, I’m sorry,” he said in a pleading tone. ”i… no one even knows we were together, so you’re still in the clear, and… if you want me to leave you alone, I understand. I know I come with too much baggage..but I just couldn’t stand you hating me… and thinking that I played you,” he said honestly. He didn’t want to be away from her, but it wasn’t fair to ask her to date him despite his fake marriage image.

Katy listened to what Jude said. If she was honest with herself, she knew that he made perfect sense. Usually kids and wives were a red flag, especially when the kids were almost as old as she was. Still, she never gave Jude a reason to think that she would judge him. A part of her was still flattered by his words, knowing that she wasn't alone in the way that she felt. Her thoughts were still jumbled about the whole situation, but she could feel herself starting to resolve and forgive him. She looked down at the floor for a minute before returning her attention back to him.

"Everyone comes with baggage," She told him as she sighed gently, her gaze drifting back down to the floor for a minute. "And I never hated you. I couldn't hate you, Jude." She returned her gaze back to him and looked at him again. "And I don't know if I could stay away from you. These past few days have been like Hell." She figured that if he was being honest with her, she should at least be honest with him. "But I don't know if I can forgive you right away, Jude. I just don't know. This whole situation is more than I am used to and I am just so confused on what to think and how to act." She paused as she ran her hand over her hair again. "And I just don't know where we go from here. I mean, I care for you, I really do and to be honest, it scares me, especially after all this. I have been hurt before in the past and that is not a place that i thought I would go back to." She had thought that she managed to put the hurt behind her, but standing with Jude now, she realized how fresh those wounds still were. She had never wanted to relive it, but it seemed like she was now.

Jude kept his eyes on her, looking for some hint or sign of forgiveness in her tone or persona. He knew she wasn’t going to forgive right away, but at least she was listening and not yelling at him. She was avoiding his eye contact for the most part, which killed him, he hated that he was making her feel this way. He was relieved to hear that she didn’t nor couldn’t hate him, that was what he was worried the most about. ”I know, I know it’s a lot to process,” he said nodded, he slid his hands in his pocket nervously. He knew this was all just too complicated, why would someone want to date someone who was married and to the world, it looked like he was happily married at that. He looked at her as she spoke, his heart aching at her words. ”I didn’t mean for it to happen like this, I’m so sorry, Katy” he sighed and rubbed his temples as he tried to think of where they could possibly go from here.

He didn’t even understand why he was still going on with the façade, ”You know what, I can’t do this anymore, I hate lying to my kids and everyone else for that matter. They deserve to know the truth,” he said looking down at his hands. He knew his wife would hate him after, but that wasn’t his problem, it wasn’t like she really cared about him or the kids. She only cared about her image and how it would look if she was a divorcee. He looked back at her and took a breath, ”I’m not gonna lie anymore about this, it makes things too complicated.” He bit his lip, ”I know you’ll probably need a bit more time and I need to get my shit together, but… when this is all done and over with… I would really like another chance and I want to take you out on a proper date,” he looked at her hopefully.

Katy sighed gently and returned her attention back to his face. She could see it on his face how sorry he was and she knew that he wasn't lying. She nodded gently at him. "I know, Jude. I know that you are sorry," She said and gave him a small smile though it didn't reach her eyes like it normally did. "And maybe once I fully process it all, I can forgive you fully." She gave him a small shrug.

Her eyes widened at his net statements. Was he really going to put it all out in the open? Not only that, but was he doing it for her? She didn't know what to say. Part of her wanted to hug and kiss him and shout from the rooftops, but another part of her wanted to tell him not too, that she didn't want him to get into trouble for coming clean. "You're...you're going to tell people about your wife and you?" She asked him to make sure that she understood him correctly. Still, as she said it, she couldn't help the small, genuine smile that began to spread across her lips at the thought.

Katy's smile widened when he mentioned taking her on a proper date when everything was done and over with. "A read date, huh?" She asked him, "And what exactly does a real date with you entail? That could possibly play a huge role in my decision." It was weird to her to see how fast her old self came back. Although she didn't completely forgive him yet, she could already tell it wouldn't take her too long to forgive him.

Jude was less stressed now than he had been when he first knocked on her door, he could see that there was still a chance for him. He didn’t want to lose her, if he did; he wasn’t sure what he’d do. He didn’t want to fuck things up with the first girl that he had clicked so well with so quickly in a very long time. The last time he felt like this was when he first met his wife, but those feelings for that woman were long gone, and had been for years now. He nodded at her words, ”That’s… completely understandable,” he said already knowing she wasn’t going to forgive him right away, if at all. He was going to take what he could get right now, he knew this wasn’t an easy situation to be in, and it wasn’t fair to Katy to even be in it. She didn’t deserve any of this and he hated himself that he had to be the one to bring her into something like this.

”Yeah,” he responded to her question, he had to admit, he was a little nervous to do so, but it had to be done, it was too long overdue. ”And I’m going to ask her for a divorce,” he nodded, he leaned a little on the nearest piece of wall to him, as different thoughts went through his brain. He looked down for a moment, obviously in his head a little, ”I don’t even know why I agreed to wait so long,” he looked up finally, and shrugged. ”I think I mainly did it for the kids, but… isn’t it worse lying to them?” he asked rhetorically, already knowing the answer to that question. He loved his kids, even if he didn’t spend as much time with them as he should have. When he came around, he always made sure to spend time with them, together and apart. His soon-t0-be-exwife didn’t do that, she didn’t even make an effort to ask them how their day had been.

He smiled a little at her response to his date question, ”For starters, I’d take you out of the state… we would use my private jet and fly somewhere, maybe I can show you my favorite restaurant in New York?” he suggested. ”You like New York,” he added, remembering that little fact about her, ”Or maybe a picnic in Central Park? Anything you want,” he said pushing himself off the wall and walking towards her, but stopping about two feet from her. ”Maybe we could go see a show… we can even make it a weekend long date if you want,” he said with a smile, he wanted to make her feel special again and he wanted to show her that he was serious about just being about her and nobody else.

Katy looked at him, her eyes widened a bit in shock when he told her that he was officially going to ask for a divorce from his wife. She didn't know exactly what to say. She could tell that he was nervous though. She gave a small nod after a minute. "If you are sure that is what you want to do, I can be there to help you with it," She said and gave a small shrug. She wasn't sure how she would help him exactly, but if he wanted her there, she would be. Again, she gave a small nod when he asked if it was worse to lie to the kids then to have just told them. "I think it might be. But it will be okay. It will all work out in the end."

Her eyes lit up when he mentioned taking her to New York. Besides California, New York had always been one of her favorite places. She loved the hustle and bustle of the city and all the history that it held. She was also extremely happy that he remembered the fact that she told him it was one of her favorite places. "All that sounds awesome I have no idea how I will decide," She told him and smiled at him. "And maybe if we make a weekend of it, I can finally take you around New York and show you some of my favorite sites. You know, some of the touristy things that you never have the chance to see, like the Empire State Building for one." She smiled at him again, her smile growing slightly at the thought of being in the city again and seeing her favorite places. She had really missed that city.

Jude gave a nod, ”I’m sure,” it was obvious that he was nervous, but he was going to do it now matter what. Him getting an actual divorce just made his failed marriage more real. He had dealt with the separation easily but now officially becoming a divorcee’, it was a little weird for him. He knew he’d be overall okay, it was just a weird feeling having everyone know. He chose to just ignore it for now, he knew it had to be done, especially if it was starting to reflect his dating life, which he knew would happen eventually. ”Really? You’d do that?” he looked at her curiously, ”that’s really sweet of you, but I think I can do it, plus, I don’t want you to be reminded about all of that, I’ll take care of it.” To be honest, he was even more worried at what he’d lose in the divorce, divorces could get ugly and if you knew his wife, she was not going to walk away with nothing. However, Ryan’s girlfriends father was[/i[ if not the best, at least one of the best lawyer’s in the state, and Jude could most likely hire him for the job. ”I think I could get a really good lawyer too,” he added as the thought went through his mind.

Jude couldn’t help but smile when that cute little smile of hers finally made an appearance, he was afraid had never get to see that smile again, let alone be the cause behind it. He smiled wider when she went on about what else they could do, liking the fact that she wanted to show him around. Every time he had been to New York, it was for a short period and he always had an agenda, so he never really went sightseeing or explored too much of the city. ”I would absolutely love that,” he replied, glad to hear that she liked the New York idea. It’d be good for them to get away and just spend time together, it’d give them the chance to rekindle that flame. ”So, is that a yes?” he asked with a light smile on his face as he stepped closer, now in front of her but nothing touching her.

Katy nodded when he asked if she would do that for him. "Of course," She told him. When he told her that it was a nice offer, but he would handle it, she gave a small sigh. She could see it from his point of view though. She wasn't sure if she wanted to be reminded of it all again. Plus, she figured that having her there might make things more difficult and possible worse in the end. After a few moments, she nodded and gave him a small smile. "Okay, but just remember that if you need me, I am here for you." She studied him for a minute as he mentioned that he could probably get a good lawyer. "Do you think it is going to get that bad?" She asked him, as a small amount of worry made an appearance into her voice. She didn't want him to get the short end of the stick and as she sensed his worry, she kind of thought that it might end up that way.

Now she couldn't keep the smile off her face as thoughts of New York and the fun that they would have kept popping into her mind. There was so much that she could show him and not just the typical tourist places either. If there was one place she knew, it was New York. "You would love it. I would make sure of that," She told him and smiled. It wasn't a lie. She would make sure that he actually enjoyed his first time actually exploring New York. She bit her lip gently and then nodded. "That is a yes," She told him and smiled at him again as she watched him step closer to her. She looked up at him unsure of what to do.

Jude nodded, a light smile on his lips, it was nice to still have her there for him. ”thanks, I will,” he nodded, really grateful for her offer and care for his well being. He gave a shrug and ran a hand through his hair swiftly, ”You don’t know my wife,” he said wincing a little at the fact that he said ‘wife’ right now, it was so weird talking about her in Katy’s presence. ”she’s going to try to make it that bad, but I don’t think she’s going to succeed,” he said with a nod, it was true, all she’d really want was money. She didn’t want custody of the kids and she’d leave him to take care of them, which will actually look good on his part, especially to the judge. If anything, he could just pay her enough to live off of and then he’d never have to see her again. Lucky for her, he knew he inside and out so he knew how to handle the woman. Sure, she could be scary sometimes, but he knew how she functioned. ”she’s just going to want A LOT of money,” he explained, but it didn’t worry him too much, he was extremely wealthy, so it would be nothing but a small dent in his bank account really.

Jude smile and gave a nod, ”I’m sure I will, especially since I’d have a really awesome tour guide,” he smirked a little her way. The thought of going out of the state with her for a weekend just sounded so perfect, it made him smile widely just thinking about it. He could have sworn his heart skipped a beat when she confirmed that she was indeed saying yes to giving him a second chance, just happy that he got it and that he didn’t lose her. He knew he’d have to work to get her to trust him again, but he was willing to work for it, she was worth it. ”Good,” he said smiling at her, he wanted to kiss her and just hold her, but he knew it was probably way too soon for that. ”I should probably go and leave you to… whatever you were doing, but I’ll call you, okay?” he said, unsure if he should try to at least hug her good bye.

Katy gave a small nod. "You are right, I don't know your wife though I did meet her. From what I remember too, she didn't seem to, um, friendly," She told him and gave a small shrug. She raised her eyebrows at him when he mentioned the fact that his wife would want a lot of money. "Just money? What about the kids?" She was a little shocked to hear that all she would want was money. She thought back to when she first met Jude's wife and realized that she didn't really care about the kids. In fact, since she had first stepped foot into the room, all she seemed to want to do was leave.

She laughed gently and nodded as she smiled at him. "And don't forget a sexy tour guide," She told him. It startled her how easily she fell back into such an easy banter with him, even after he had hurt her as bas as he did. She smiled at him again as she looked at him. She nodded slightly. "Yeah, I should probably get back to my song writing. They aren't going to write themselves after all." She nodded at him again. "But yeah. Call, or text. Whatever you want to do. Who knows, I might answer them now." She smirked at him again as she rocked back and forth on her feet a few times. She didn't know if she should give him a hug, shake his hand, or what. While they seemed to be at ease now, she could still feel a little awkwardness in the air. "Um, how about I walk you to the door?" She said as she shrugged gently. She knew that the door was not even fifteen feet from where they stood at the current moment, but she didn't know what else to do or say at the moment. She didn't really want him to go, but she also wasn't sure if she wanted him to stay. It was a very confusing feeling for her.

Jude let out a small chuckle, ”yeah, she’s not. Around the time I started making real money, she got more involved with being a socialite and started hanging out with other rich broads she met, who live off someone else’s money too and she just… changed,” he shrugged a bit, money sure can change a person. The woman he first fell in love with was no longer there and hadn’t been for years now, Jude easily saw that and he wasn’t happy. He nodded, confirming that she’d just want money. ”she doesn’t give a shit about the kids… she doesn’t even spend time with them. If any, she only talks to beccah because I get her fashion week tickets and she goes with her,” he rolled his eyes, ”they’re pretty independent kids though, I’ve taught them that early on, so…” he sighed a little. It was true, his kids were independent, they had learned to take care of themselves at an early age. Jude wasn’t home a lot because he traveled so much, but recently he had been managing his time better, especially with everything that was about to go on.

”ah,” he touched his chest and made a shocked expression on his face, ”how could I forget to mention ‘sexy’? shame on me,” he chuckled shaking his head. He smiled back at her, glad to see that things weren’t so heated between the two anymore. Everything was out in the open and he could finally take a breath of fresh air again. He chuckled at her words as she teased him with the probability of her picking up his calls now, ”I’ll be crossing my fingers,” he winked. He knew he had to go, give her a little more time and space, they both probably needed it. ”Okay, sure,” he said as she walked him to the door, he stopped in front of it and turned to her, unsure what was okay to do right now. He wanted to wrap his arms around her and kiss her, but was it too soon? It was a little awkward, but he finally decided to just hold his hand out, for her to shake. He figured that’d be the safest bet for now, he didn’t want her to think he was too forward.
