It was her first week interning at Walker Sports Agency and she was absolutely loving it, she had always prepared herself to go into law, but actually being about to do things in that field was quite the experience. She was working in the legal department, which handled all the legal paperwork for new athletes and business decisions. It wasn’t exactly where she was headed in the future, but it was good experience and it gave her an idea of what it was going to be like, dealing with the paperwork part of it all. She wasn’t going to be able to have much of a summer vacation, she was well aware of that, but she didn’t mind it really, she knew she had to do this if she wanted to get into the law school she wanted to. So it was all leading towards something, it wasn’t like she was doing it for nothing.
Today was Wednesday and on Wednesdays it was half days at the office, which Ariana loved, it was like a nice treat in the middle of the week. She had made plans to meet up with Ryan at the park, she had offered to pick him up, but he refused, stating that he was already out and about so she just headed straight there after work. It was a nice and smooth ride, always was since she got her car, she absolutely adored it and it was definitely an upgrade from her last. It wasn’t brand new, but she still treated it like it was, she was just that grateful for it. She arrived and parked in the parking lot, not seeing Ryan outside where he told her to meet him, so she stayed in her car for a bit.
Things had been going more than great with Ryan and she couldn’t be happier. Sure, she had to pull him away from Jason a lot, but overall, she was happy with him and was only falling more in love with him as the days went on. Her father was starting to warm up to him, her brother told her he’d be nicer to him from now on, and Ariana had invited Ryan to a hockey game, finally. It was this weekend and she was really excited but nervous for him to find out. She didn’t tell him what exactly he was getting into, but he agreed to meet her at the ice skating rink right when her game started. Before she was scared to tell him, but the more time she spent with him and the more Ryder encouraged her to tell him, she knew it was about time. She smiled lightly at her phone background as she checked the time; it was a picture of her and Ryan making a goofy face at the camera. She giggled a little at the memory and got out of the car, starting to head where Ryan told her to meet him.
She straightened out her dress a little before heading towards the bench she was told to go to. She saw someone there, but it wasn’t Ryan, it was his brother, Evan. She hadn’t met him yet, but she knew who he was when she saw him. What was he doing there? Where was Ryan? She looked around for Ryan, but there was no sign of him. Was Evan waiting for Ryan too? Ryan would have said something if he invited his brother along to, wouldn’t he? She bit her lip a little as she approached the boy, placing a strand of her hair behind her right ear. ”Um, hi, Evan, right?” she asked, even though she already knew who he was, ”You’re not…waiting for Ryan, are you? I’m Ariana, his girlfriend, I was supposed to meet him here” she said in a bit of a light tone. She was a little nervous, she didn’t want to meet him like this, she wanted to meet him with Ryan there, at least then she’d be more comfortable.

CLICK, 936 WORDS, TAGGED FOR ARI, MEETING. Summer was generally a relief for students. A time to get away from all the pressure and just kick back for a few months, regenerating their minds and preparing them for the next year to come. Or in most of the teens in Velocity’s case, a time to fucking party. For Evan, though, it was as though the nine months of school had been a waiting room into hell itself. He hated being home all the time – at least at school he could avoid confrontation with his uncle, someone who he couldn’t stand to be around. They had their moments when it came to being just okay with each other, but it really was a rare day, especially now that the man was convinced he was a homosexual. It didn’t make much sense to him, as he explained over and over that he was only interested in women, but his uncle refused to budge on the matter. So, in attempt to stay away from home as much as possible, Evan left on a daily basis and attended every party in the city, but there wasn’t nearly enough to go around. On a party less night he would just go to the club, but even he knew that his body couldn’t handle the alcohol every single night and temptation was too overpowering to resist.
On this particular morning, he stumbled in the house around five and walked as quietly as he could up to his room, the alcohol still ringing his gut from only hours before, serving as a reminder never to drink that much again. He locked his eyes on his uncle as he traveled up the stairs quietly, making sure not to disturb the drunken, passed out man on his couch. It was such a disgusting sight, really, but he was no better. Alcoholism was not far from his future, though he refused to admit to it. Evan made it to his room and stripped himself of the sweat covered, gross looking clothes upon his body and threw them to the side, coming towards his bed to land face first and promptly afterwards pass out. He stayed in a coma like sleep for a couple of hours, roughly five, before he was ever so rudely awoken by none other than the Uncle of the year. “Get your ass out of bed,” the gruff man snapped, pushing Evan’s door open and walking away, though it was easy to tell he wasn’t going out of hearing distance until the boy actually followed the order. Evan’s eyes fluttered open and he rolled over, firming his feet on the ground before walking in the hallway solely to prove that he was awake, and then from there into the bathroom. “I’m up,” he grumbled, closing the wooden door behind him. He was left alone, thank god, but he could only tell for how long.
For the past week or so, things had been especially bad, mostly because of a failed attempt to escape. He grimaced at his reflection; bruises were on his hips and a couple in other spread out places, but it wasn’t an unfamiliar sight. It had been like this for as long as he could remember. A quick shower, some new clothes and some cologne later he looked brand new – at least to the naked eye. He didn’t know where he was planning to go, but as long as he wasn’t home, he would be happy. Evan traveled from upstairs to down, leaving the house as quickly and quietly as he could: it was a horrible idea, always made his uncle so much madder than actually just asking to go somewhere, but he really hated confrontation of any sorts and that was exactly what it was with him. Anything to do with his uncle was a confrontation. He walked down the street, occasionally looking over his shoulder as he did so, but eventually he was out of sight and he wound up at the park, sitting on a bench.
His body was tired, and so was his mind. He didn’t want to think about anything, at least not yet. His wishes were soon crushed by the sound of his phone beeping, which caused him to frown, but he decided to check it on the off chance that it was his brother. Surprisingly, it was. Another weird thing: he wanted to meet him exactly where he was already. “Uh… already there, but okay, bud.” he texted back before shoving the phone back in his pocket, a little happy that he’d soon see his little brother. It sucked that he wasn’t around anymore, but he understood why. Lost in his thoughts once again, Evan blocked out the world around him and while he was in his head, there wasn’t actually anything going on in there. It was just silence. Despite how annoying it might have sounded before, it was really, really peaceful. His train of non-thought was broken when he heard his name and he clicked his tired eyes into the direction, focusing on a very, very pretty girl who shortly after asking his name introduced herself as Ryan’s girlfriend. “Yeah, that’s me…” he confirmed, sitting upright and looking over her. He narrowed his eyes, “well, I just came on my own… but he just texted me to meet here, weirdly enough,” he said with a bit of a smile, laughing and shaking his head. “I think we may have been punkd, Ariana,” Evan said a little sweetly, grinning up at her. He still looked tired, but he was happier now that he was in the company of someone.

Ariana fiddled with her thumbs nervously as she looked over at the boy, she really wasn’t expecting to meet him this way. She smiled lightly the more he spoke, he was definitely nothing like she expected, not that she really had any idea of what he was like in the first place. All she knew was that he was older than Ryan, was like a big teddy bear, and he was living under the same living conditions as Ryan once was. Ryan had told her that she’d get to meet him on Friday though, not Wednesday, not today. His calm presence definitely lessened her level of nervousness and she let out a light laugh as she shook her head, ”I think you might be right,” she reached into her bag as she felt a vibration in it. It was a text from Ryan, just a simple emoticon was in it, ’ ;p ‘, which made her giggle lightly and show Evan, taking a step closer to him.
”We’re getting him back for this, right?” she smiled putting her cell phone back in the bag, just figuring she’d just go with it since she was already here. Plus, Evan didn’t seem bad at all actually; she just hoped that he’d like her for his little brother. ”You’ll have to bear with me, I wasn’t prepared to meet you yet,” she said a little timidly, ”but hi, its nice to finally meet you,” she said holding out her hand for him to shake. She wondered if Ryan had told him anything about her or whether or not Ryan had even mentioned that he had a girlfriend. She knew they hadn’t talked in awhile, so she was clueless to what Evan actually knew. ”Do you want to take a walk or something?” she asked gesturing towards the pathway that went throughout the park. ”Might as well get to know each other, right?” she gave a light shrug, biting her bottom lip a little. She really wanted him to like her, all of the other people in Ryan’s life did, but would his brother? What if he didn’t? Would Ryan break up with her? She knew she was probably being ridiculous, but she couldn’t help the worries that flew threw her mind.

The girl in front of him seemed too sweet to be dating his brother. Not that Ryan wasn't good for sweet girls; he just seemed like the type to go after a more... provocative type, but perhaps Evan had the kid all wrong. Thinking about it made him want to chuckle, but he kept his smile pleasant and welcoming, his eyes looking to the phone with his brothers text. What a little git. He laughed, closing his eyes for a moment and rubbing his temples, short of a real response. "Wow," he muttered, grinning up at her and then standing up. He thought it was actually kind of clever coming from Ryan, considering how dumb his plans normally were. Like the one that fucked his body up. Not that he really held that against him. Evan had a hard time blaming anyone other than himself for the things that happened to him.
"Absolutely. We'll think of something," he said as he extended his hand to shake hers in return, shaking it with a firm but all the same gentle grip. He smiled down at her, "nice to meet you too. I've heard a lot about you," Evan paused, grinning. "All good things, of course." He dropped his hand and looked at where she was motioning, nodding and looking back at her. "Might as well," he agreed, continuing to smile at her as he began to walk."So.. uh, tell me about yourself." Short of a proper way to start the conversation, Evan went with the easiest route. He kept his eyes on her for the most part, though he could see a very clear bruise on his shoulder out of the corner of his eye - and some down his arms. Why the fuck did he wear a tank top to a public place? He wished he hadn't, but he assumed that she knew. She had to know. Ryan wasn't the best at secrets, and if Evan had a significant other, they would probably know too.

Ariana grinned and shrugged a bit, ”maybe we can trick him into thinking we fell in love by this random meeting,” she joked. She wasn’t necessarily mad at ryan, but she did want to get him back for tricking her. She didn’t like surprises; she liked being prepared for things like this, for things in general really. She hated the fact that he wasn’t there to prevent the possible awkwardness that followed. What if Evan didn’t like her? What if she didn’t like him? Not that she ever really disliked anyone, but still. ”Oh yeah? What kind of things? Good things I hope…. All I heard about you…was that….you’re awesome and that you’re infamous for your teddy bear qualities” she chuckled, ”do I have to reserve a hug in advance since apparently you’re popular in that department?” she joked.
They started to walk and she couldn’t help but look down at her feet, she was so unprepared for this meeting, it frightened her. She hated being unprepared for anything really, even something as simples as a pop quiz. She looked over at him and tried not to stare too long at the bruises on his body, especially since she knew very well where it had come from. She wasn’t the type to bring that stuff up so she kept quiet, ”um, I’m a senior now…. And I’m interning at the Walker Sports Agency for the summer. I want to be a lawyer….and I wish there was a professional female hockey league….” she mumbled the last few words.
