Summer. Thus far, it had been perfect – he was free from the drama that school came with, and more importantly, he’d never have to go to First Colonial again. He was officially a part of a dancing unit and that was where he’d spend his senior year. He was stoked, to say the least, and he practiced dancing whenever he could. It was a good half of his free time, which he had so much of now. It hadn’t come to realization before that school really took up all his time; between all the clubs, sports and the homework… he was literally tied to his education for a full nine months. Not that was necessarily a bad thing, but it was quite relieving to be let go from it and have a break for a while. Today, Jayden was working and that meant he could either A) go to the studio and dance, or B) go to the beach with some friends that had extended him an invitation. Due to some sore feet, he decided to go to the beach and just kick back for the day, all the while spending time with some of his closest friends. Around four he came home, wet, sandy and a little tanned. Luckily he escaped the sunburn factor of spending the day in the sun, but at the same time he did manage to knock himself up a bit by screwing around in waves that were strong enough to knock him over. Overall, his day was good. The first thing he did when he walked in the house was take a shower and that lasted up until about four PM, give or take a few minutes. After getting dressed he did as he usually did and lied on the couch, feet propped up on the arm and head turned sideways to get a perfect view of Adventure Time. His attention was focused solely on the show until the commercial went on, and just on cue, he heard a buzzing on the coffee table. Was it his cell phone? He picked it up, and he saw a message that read, I can’t wait to see you again. with a little winky face. From… Leah? Who the fuck was Leah? From closer inspection, he realized it was not his phone, but Jaydens. Several questions arose; number one being, why did he leave his phone at home? Secondly, why was a girl sending him mysterious and flirty text messages? Trust was an essential part in their relationship, as it had been an issue many times before, but based off that one text, he couldn’t help but open up the rest of them from that contact. After reading about four or five, he got upset and put it down, sliding it across the table and crossing his arms. Why was he being so flirty with her? It was true that Jamie had his faults in that department – but it was never that… deliberate sounding, because he never really knew when he was doing it. Was it possible that Jayden was the same way? He closed his eyes in frustration, rubbing his temples and trying to think of how to react, but coming to a point blank. OUTFIT

Jayden was so glad that he was officially out of high school and could focus more of his time on spending time with his fiancé and getting in more hours at work, so he could save up more money. He had a free ride through college, thanks to his football scholarship, but he still wanted to provide for his future husband. It also helped that he really did like his job; he got to work with his best friend and meet new people all day. Sometimes he met people that went to his school and he didn’t even know it until he met them at the café, like his recent new friend, Leah, who was starting to become a regular. Whenever Kris was out or on the phone during her breaks, Leah was sometimes conveniently around to keep him company on his breaks. She was far younger than him than most of the people he associated with, but Jayden was a lot nicer than he used to be, so he was more accepting and friendly towards people.
He had just gotten off of his last break of the shift; he always took it much later so that when he got back to work, he only had a short period of time before he could head home. Again, Leah had joined him and the two engaged in pretty good conversation as usual, hell, they even made plans to hang out when Jayden was off. He really did enjoy her company, hell even when he wasn’t near her; she sent him thoughtful text messages which he thought were endearing. Jayden didn’t really think much of it, in fact, he thought she was really sweet and it was nice to hear that someone wanted to hang out with you more. Jayden had been quite busy and hadn’t been spending as much time with friends as he should have, so it was nice to finally get a break from it all and just enjoy oneself. Jay got a lot of that at home, of course, with his boyfriend, but he knew he had to hang out with friends more, so he was.
He got back to work, helping each customer with whatever they needed. He couldn’t stop touching his pocket; it was a habit of his. He always had his phone in his right pocket and he always touched the pocket to make sure he didn’t drop it. But today, he had forgotten his phone at home, but still found himself checking his pocket every 10 minutes or so. He hated it when his phone was away from him, it meant that he couldn’t constantly check the time, text his fiancé, or text anyone else for that matter. It wasn’t always busy in the café and when he got bored, he liked to text or fuck with his phone a bit. Today, he had to just manage or make conversation with his coworkers, which seemed to have been doing the trick rather well actually.
Time went my semi-fast though near the end of his shift and before he knew it, he was grabbing his things and clocking out. He said bye to his coworker and headed out to his car, hopping in and heading home. He considered stopping by a drive-thru and picking him and James something up to eat, but he decided against it for now. He kind of felt like cooking tonight, his future mother-in-law, Victoria had been teaching him a few recipes here and there and once in a while, Jay would try them out. He had always been a fast learner, especially when he actually enjoyed what he was being taught. He messed up rarely during his cooking attempts, either that or James never had the heart to tell him, but he believed he didn’t do too shabby.
Jayden got home in his usual time and parked in their driveway, closing the door shut behind as he made his way to the front door and let himself in with his key. He saw James on the couch as expected, watching Adventure Time, his fiancé was just so adorable. ”Hey babe,” he said as he started to put his things down. ”Have a good day?” he asked, as he finally finished putting everything down, kicking his shoes off, and made his way to the couch. He was a little tired but whenever he got home, he always felt less stressed and less tired. It was like a big relief being free after work, he was able to just relax and hangout. James was laid out and Jay didn’t want to disturb his comfort, so he just leaned down near James’ face, ”can I get a welcome home kiss now?” he asked smiling lightly at his fiancé. He really did miss James when he had to work a full 8 hour shift.

James felt increasingly stupid as the moments went on - why was he over-reacting so badly about this? Jayden liked him for not being that way. Normally things didn’t bother him so much about what his fiancé said, because a lot of the time – like with him – they didn’t mean anything. The two were just naturally flirty, intentional or not. But for some reason, he couldn’t help but feel bitter about this girl. He looked at the clock under the television and noticed that it wasn’t late at all, and he also noted that Jayden would soon be home from work. Finally. Despite how weird those text messages made him feel he knew he would be more than relieved when Jayden walked in. He always was. Part of him hated how attached he was to his fiancé but all the same, he wouldn’t be worth marrying if he weren’t as in love with him as he was. James took in a deep breath and calmed himself, forgetting about Leah and forgetting about any bitterness he held and just enjoying himself. There was nothing quite like a cartoon to calm him down; by the end of the episode, he was totally fine. For a moment, he didn’t even remember why he had been upset. A loud ringing scared him into an upright position and he found the source quickly, laughing a little himself that he had been scared by his own cell phone. How silly. He looked at the notification with a calm expression, but it quickly became confused, and then frightened. Unicornism? As a title subject from the gossip blog? He was subscribed to it and got an emailed copy; mostly because he wanted to be sure he and his friends were never in it – and less out of actual interest in the thing. He didn’t think anyone else actually was interested in it beyond those reasons, though. James opened the email cautiously, reading down the page on his phone and slowly stopping as he came to the end, and his first reaction was to cover his mouth. His eyes returned to the screen and he kept his mouth covered, watching the TV with water filled eyes and a hollow chest. His thoughts ran rapid, almost in tune with the speed of his heart and he swallowed tightly, trying his damnedest not to start crying. He read a comment about a moment later, one of which was made by someone he didn’t know all too well – and yes, it did make him feel better. However, he couldn’t help commenting in return with his own little message to the author of the post, and a small thank you note at the bottom. He slowly set his phone down, the thread still up in the window. He didn’t know what he was more upset about, really. the fact that everyone was probably thinking about how dumb or crazy he was for writing such an out there story, or the fact that no one had told him Santa wasn’t real and he wasn’t smart enough to figure it out for himself until that moment. He pulled himself together and wiped his tears with the sleeve of his teal sweater, listening as his boyfriend walked in the door and watching as he put everything down. “Hey,” Jamie replied, biting his lip gently and keeping his eyes on the somewhat rough but comfortable couch material. “It was… okay,” he responded, shrugging his shoulders and looking obviously upset. Usually when Jayden asked that, he’d provide with an elaborate story of all the things that went well in his day and he’d get a big kiss before he could even ask for one. Today was a little different, but he still smiled and leaned up, wrapping his arms around his neck and pulling him close enough to give him a nice kiss. It wasn’t too long or too short, not too deep or too empty. He pushed shifted his body and pushed Jay onto the couch so that he was sitting in the middle cushion and he climbed onto his lap, his arms still around him and face tucked in the crook of his neck and shoulder. “I’m just glad you’re home,” he said, beginning to sob a little as his arms tightened around him. Jayden always felt better the moment he was even within 5 miles of his house, mainly because he knew his fiancé was close by. Work had a tendency to drain him sometimes, but he always felt better the moment he was near home. It was an odd thing to explain, but it was true, just the thought of going back home truly made him happy and energized all over again. Jayden was already feeling his mood lift the moment he walked into the door and saw his baby sitting on the couch watching television as usual, but it quickly shifted into a more concerned tone when he saw the look on James’ face. He could always tell when James was upset, even if he tried to hide it.
James wasn’t hiding it now, but his body language and words already informed Jay that something was indeed wrong. Jay didn’t ask just yet though, but when James replied to his previous question, he knew that something was definitely up. James always took up to at least 20 minutes explaining how his day was, even if he didn’t do anything. Jay often looked forward to those elaborations because he loved how chipper James was about the littlest things. James was the one that pretty much made jay the man he was today, he knocked him off the jock pedestal he was once on and made him want to be a better man. He made him appreciate the little things in life and to be honest, Jay loved it, he loved being happy and just living life being true to himself.
Jayden frowned when he saw the look on James’ face but was granted with his welcome kiss, closing his eyes during it. He could even feel the sadness in his kiss, which made him sad himself, he hated when James was upset. Seeing that adorable human being down killed him, it killed him even more when he was the reason behind it, but he knew that he wasn’t this time around. Jay pulled away slowly and allowed James to push him on the couch beside him, wrapping his arms around him as soon as his fiancé crawled into his lap. ”Baby, what happened? “ he frowned as James started to sob, ”did something happen on adventure time or something?”
Jayden kept James as close as he could and kissed his forehead, ”talk to me” he almost asked why James didn’t call him if he was sad but then remembered that he had left his cell phone at home. ”Fuck, I’m sorry I didn’t have my phone, you could have called me,” he sighed and looked forward at the coffee table where both of their cell phones laid beside one another’s, James’ phone with a fresh screen still lit up. He frowned a little and reached over, careful not to drop James out of his arms and grabbed the phone. James never left a screen open unless he was stuck on a game, but it wasn’t a game, it was the new issue of the gossip blog. He looked at it and read it, his eyes running through each line rapidly.
A saddened expression took over his face as he put the phone down and stared into space for a moment. After a few seconds, he looked at James, ”Baby…. “ and just wrapped his arms tighter around him. He couldn’t even imagine how James must have felt right now, James was like a big little kid and things that he had believed in had just been mocked. ”Ignore that, you know that gossip blogger is a dick… he made up lies about me using again and now he’s picking on you,” he frowned, ”don’t let it get to you please….just tell me what to do to make you feel better. I’ll make us dinner… better yet, we can have ice cream for dinner and we can watch whatever you want,” he sighed, ”I don’t like you upset.”

Uncertainty turned to sadness within moments of each other and all James could feel was this hollow sensation in his chest and a tied knot at his stomach. What a terrible day. Every other good thing he remembered doing was tossed out the window of his brain and the only thing he could think about was the smell of his fiancé’s cologne, which he inhaled from having his face tucked so tightly on his neck. He loved the smell of it, so he was more than okay about – it was just literally the only thing he could focus on if he wanted to avoid thinking about what he had just read. Still, the insults thrown at him always came back and he gave up after too long, his sobs worsening in depth and tears still running. He could hear him talking, but all he could really do in response was shaking his head to the question about Adventure Time. He usually, in this kind of situation, would just need a moment to get it all out and then he’d stop and talk. “It’s okay,” he said with a strained voice about his phone, feeling a little better when his forehead was kissed – it was just so comforting. Jay always made him feel better, without fail. “It hasn’t been long,” he added, his words genuine. Really, he had come home just in time. The phone wouldn’t have mattered either way. He didn’t yet pick up his head, instead he just held tighter onto Jayden and even more so when there was a tilt in their position, which he assumed was him getting the phone. He stayed as quiet as a crying person could while Jay read it and during that time, he calmed down enough that it was just tears and he turned his head so that it was rested on his shoulder, but his face was out and able to see Jayden, as well as be seen. Jamie knew what Jayden said was true, but the thing as a whole was just upsetting. “What if he’s right, though?” He asked, his voice as quiet as it could be. He didn’t like to think in that way about things, but something about the way the blogger wrote it just really stuck to him. “I just mean…” James shrugged his shoulders, his voice cracking and he looked from Jayden’s neck to his eyes, a genuinely sad expression across his features. “What kind of eighteen year old believes in Santa?” The question made his heart sink as he said it, truly unable to believe that he had been so dense for so long. Was he actually some kind of mentally deficient? “I’m trying not to, but it’s hard,” he said, a slight whine in his tone in regards to not letting the issue get to him. There were some things he ignored quite easily – actually, it was rare that he didn’t ignore an insult. It was just something as public as that and humiliating that he couldn’t handle. He took the pause to his advantage and held himself as close as he could to him, tucking his face once again in the crook of Jayden’s shoulder and neck. James kissed that part of his neck and closed his eyes, thinking for a moment and moving his face so that his eyes were pressed against him, but his mouth was free to talk. “Can you make that steak dinner we bought? If the grill is working again,” James asked, his voice lacking the energy it normally had. It sounded really monotone, and almost resembled his brother’s voice. Actually, it sounded exactly like him, just a little softer. “And… maybe we can watch Mulan?” He added, shrugging his shoulders, unsure of what would actually make him feel better. “ I don’t like being sad.” OUTFIT

Jayden kept his arms around James tightly, he wished he could protect him from things like this. Hell, he wished he could protect him from anything and everyone. James didn’t deserve any sort of ill treatment, it should be illegal for him to even be sad. Jay tried his best to keep the bad things away from James, it was pretty much his duty as the boy’s fiancé, but sometimes things got to james before jay could even do anything. He was glad that James didn’t push him away though, he just let himself fall into Jayden whenever he was upset, allowing Jay to comfort him as best as he could. Jay liked to believe that he was pretty good at comforting James, but sometimes, he felt like he could easily do so much more. He wanted to do so much more, anything to put a smile back on that flawless face.
”He’s not, I happen to think, no I know, that you’re one of the sanest people I know… everyone believes in Santa, some longer than others,” he said in a gentle tone, keeping his eyes on James, and reaching up to touch his cheek lightly, rubbing it lightly with his thumb.”and as far as unicornism, it just so happens, that I believe in that too, I don’t think its make believe. Everyone has their own beliefs and that jerk off is just jealous because his beliefs don’t involve unicorns,” he shrugged simply, trying to make James feel better as best he could. ”or he just needed someone to poke fun at, but baby, seriously, don’t let him get to you, that’s what he wants,” he pressed his forehead to james’, ”maybe he’s Jerome reincarnated, sent here to make everyone forget about unicornism,” he added.
Jayden nodded lightly, ”of course, what sides do you want?” he asked, he loved cooking for James, and had hoped to have mastered the art by the time they started having kids. He wasn’t going to be a house husband or anything, but he wanted to be able to provide his family with a lovely come-cooked meal. ”Mulan works, I haven’t seen that one in forever,” he smiled lightly and kissed James’ forehead again, ”whatever you need, you know all you have to do is ask, okay? I’m going to get a smile back on the pretty face of yours if it’s the last thing I do, mister.”
