The school year was almost over and it was just crazy to poor young Tobias Henry Jefferson. He was brand new to the area and his summer was going to spent with mostly his brothers unless he made some friends quick. He was also due for chemo pretty soon and he hoped to make some new friends before he had to go to the hospital for a few weeks for that. He didn't like chemo much but he always made new friends, even if they were mostly younger kids that were like eight or younger. Toby would make friends with anybody, including young children, and old people. He liked to spend time with people that were in the hospital when he was stuck there. It made the time pass by quicker and everybody was happier because they pretended everything was normal. For some, cancer and the other various diseases were normal but Toby refused to accept that cancer was just a part of his life. He kept thinking of it as an alien that needed to leave his body. He believed that was one of the best ways to combat the cancer. Refuse to accept it and stay optimistic. For now, that was his strategy.
Sure, Leukemia sucked but he was sure he was going to beat it. He didn't dwell on the fact that he had Leukemia. He preferred to think of things like basketball, skating, soccer, and playing his guitar or his drums. He liked to hang out and just have a good time and that was what he was gonna do, damn it. He changed out of his jeans into a pair of basketball shorts after school ended. He wanted to play some basketball and get back in the groove of it. He was now on the basketball team and he wanted to be captain his senior year. If he was going to be captain, he needed to get his head in the game and just practice, practice, practice. He slipped his supras on and stuffed his jeans in his gym locker. He grabbed his ball and headed out to the gym, running towards the basketball hoop and getting his short body as high in the air as he could before shoving the ball in the basket. Toby landed softly on his feet and looked around, seeing if anybody was around. Seeing nobody, he put his headphones in his ears and just continued to practice.

Dean felt way too bound up lately. After all that was going on in his life at the moment with Brady and Zoey, he hadn't really taken time for himself. Granted, he loved both of them and would always put those two before himself. It was probably his one fault, but he could not, not put his friends before himself.
Still, he felt his body loosen lightly as he stepped into the locker room and changed into his gym clothes. It had been far too long since he had been on the court, dribbling up to a basket, ball in hand, and making his shot effortlessly. Sure, he still worked out every day, taking time in the mornings to run, but he hadn't been on the court in a while. He just hoped that he wasn't getting rusty.
He finished changing and shut his locker. He started to head to the basketball court when he heard the familiar pounding of a basketball against the floor. He slightly wondered who it could be. He didn't know anyone that really stayed after school to shoot a few baskets. Most of the time, when he did stay, he was the only one to do so. Everyone else seemed to hit the weight room or the track. Even this close to the end of the school year though, most students just went straight home.
As Dean reached the gym, he saw a guy shooting baskets at the far end of the court. He walked over to a bench and sat down to put on his shoes. He continued to watch the kid play, wondering if he should ask to join him or let him be. The kid looked a little familiar, but he couldn't exactly place it. Outfit: HereWORDS: 298 Tag: Tobias

Toby was just trying to get out and have some fun before he had to go the hospital. Unfortunately for Toby, there was no basketball. There were plenty of people to talk to though. He was going to make new friends at the new hospital because he had just barely moved here from Utah. Toby shot the ball and it landed right in the basket, nothin' but net. He was good at basketball. He retrieved his ball and dribbled around the court, making sure his heart rate when up. He wanted to give himself an awesome work out today because he wanted to work himself as hard as possible before another round of chemo. Chemo made it hard to move around and just have a good time. He spent most of his time socializing with the other people that had cancer or other terminal illnesses. He also spent a lot of time coloring in coloring books.
Another shot at the basket and another ball in. He was doing fantastic on his shots today. He ran over to the ball, bouncing it so that he was dribbling again. Tobias Jefferson went out to the three point line and shot again... And nailed it, yet again. He hadn't missed a single shot since he'd gotten out here which was boosting his confidence. He loved, loved, loved basketball and he was doing so well without really trying. He was basically out here to goof off and just have some fun. He was giving himself a reason to smile and was going to continue to do so. He looked across the gym, noticing movement from the corner of his eye. Another guy, who was taller and a lot more muscular had joined him in the gym. Toby thought he'd seen him from somewhere! Oh yeah, it was the guy on the basketball team! He couldn't recall the other boy's name though.
Toby took one more shot and it sunk right in the basket, yet again. He wondered whether the other boy was going to just sit and watch him or if he had come to play and wanted to play alone. Toby called over to him, "You can come play if you want? I'm Toby, the new kid from Utah!" He sent a grin the other boy's way and waved him over. He liked to make new friends and hopefully this kid did too!

Dean finished tying his shoe and sat up, just as the kid on the court made another basket. He couldn't deny that the kid was good, very good. In fact, he knew that if the kid would go out for the team, as long as he could handle himself well on the court, would most likely make the team. From the way that he shot though, he still would probably make it. He continued to watch as the kid went to the three point line and sunk another basket and he couldn't help but nod slightly. This kid seemed to know what he was doing.
When the kid looked at him, he stood up and waited for the kid to address him. He smiled lightly at him as he finally began to walk over to him, dribbling his own basketball easily. He had originally planned to just shoot some baskets by himself in order to get some practice in so he didn't lose his touch. Granted, basketball had always come easily for Dean and he doubted that because he hadn't been playing for a few weeks, he would lose his touch. Plus, it was always good to shoot with someone else. The best games always were one-on-ones with friendly competition.
"Hey Toby," Dean said as he approached him. "My name is Dean. Dean Torres." He placed his basketball under his arm and held out his hand for Toby to take. "It's nice to meet you." He looked at the basket for a minute before turning his attention back to Toby. "You got some skill, dude. Did you play back in Utah?" He was curious to know where Toby had learned to shoot like that at or if it was just natural talent on his part. Outfit: HereWORDS: 300 Tag: Tobias Notes: I agree :)

Tobias Henry Jefferson loved basketball. It was the sport he excelled in most, other than skateboarding. Toby knew he was going to be a professional skateboarder. He wanted to meet Tony Hawk and stuff. He was excited to get going in that sport. Basketball was the team sport that Toby was the best at. He loved basketball and even though he was short, he played well. He excelled and he knew it. Skateboarding and basketball were the two things that kept Toby going, that kept Toby fighting while he was at the hospital. Basketball and skateboarding were in his dreams, day and night. When he was stuck in the hospital, he'd daydream about shooting that winning basket or landing that trick that he'd been working on. A lot of the time he was too weak after chemo to do a whole lot for a few weeks... And then just as he regained his strength, it was time for chemo again. It was annoying. Really annoying.
Toby was going to beat the cancer. This was something he insisted upon and knew. He could see the worry in his twin brothers' eyes and he could see the pain in his parents' eyes. They didn't think he was gonna beat it, especially since he'd been fighting it for two and a half years but he wasn't going to give up. There was no way he was going to give up. No way in hell. Toby wasn't going to throw his life away. He still had so much to accomplish. He still had hopes and dreams and hell, he still needed to meet a few girls. He still had a lot to do and accomplish on this Earth to have cancer take him. Cancer wasn't going to beat him. It had beat other people but it wasn't going to beat him. He refused to let it. His ball sailed towards the basket again and it almost didn't make it. He cringed and then it went in. Toby whooped in victory. He was unstoppable today.
"Hey!" Toby dribbled the ball furiously as the other, taller boy approached him. Was the other one going to play some one-on-one with him? That'd be awesome. Toby wasn't the least bit intimidated by the other boy, even though he was taller. Toby didn't care about height. He was good at sneaking under people that were taller than him. "You should've said Torres. Dean Torres. You know? Like James Bond." Toby laughed and shook Dean's hand after putting his ball on the ground and putting his foot on top of it so it wouldn't roll away. "Nice to meet you too. Good to know that there are fellow basketball players 'round here. I was a bit worried." He grinned teasingly. Toby didn't worry about stuff like that but he had wondered why there was no one playing basketball after school. Granted, the year was almost over. Most people looked forward to that but not Toby. He had to go to the hospital three weeks after the year ended. He wanted the year to go forever.
"Definitely played. I've been playing since I was like four. I have two twin brothers. One looks just like me and the other doesn't look anything like me. Albert and Simon. I don't know if you've met them but all three of us have been playing since we were little. I also skateboard and snowboard." He smiled, glad to see that Dean had noticed his talent. He hadn't seen Dean play so he couldn't judge whether he had talent, but he almost guaranteed that Dean could handle a basketball. Dean Torres looked just as athletic as Toby was. Toby didn't look it as much because he was so sick all the time but... He was just as athletic as this kid looked. "I assume you're quite the jock? What sports do you play?" Toby picked up his ball and spun it on his finger for a moment before dribbling a bit. He was antsy.

Dean smiled at the kid as he stopped in front of him. He gave him a small shrug. "I was thinking about doing that, but changed my mind at the last minute," He said with a slight chuckle. He shook his head lightly. "There is no need to worry. There are a lot of basketball people around here. This late into the year though, most clear out of the gym in order to focus on grades and such." In fact, that is probably what he should have been doing at the moment, but decided against it. He did pretty well in school just of natural ability and had yet to fail a class.
He nodded at Toby told his story about how long he has been playing basketball along with his twin brothers before shaking his head. He didn't think that he had met his brothers. "Well, that is cool. That is around the time I started playing. My mom insists that I was born with a basketball in my hand though," He said and gave a small laugh, "And I don't think that I have met your brothers yet. Well, pretty sure that I haven't." He gave a shrug before he nodded slightly. "I guess you can say that I am a jock. I play most of the sports the school has to offer though basketball is my favorite. The others, while I enjoy them and excel at them, are mainly used to stay in shape for basketball." It was true. While he did play a lot of sports and excelled at them, basketball would always hold his heart. It was on the court that he thrived and actually tried to give more than his best. He always tried his best in the other sports as well and hoped to make captain of most of them by his senior year. With his dedication and hard work though, he doubted it would be a problem. Tobias looked around the gym and then landed back on the other kid. This kid seemed fun to be hanging around and Toby wasn't sure why he was calling him 'kid' in his mind. The other boy was older than Toby... But whatever. He laughed slightly at Dean's words and replied, "Why? It's the best way ever to introduce yourself!" He smiled an easygoing smile, unable to contain himself. He always got super excited about meeting new people and he was always looking to meet someone else. He just loved people in general. "Grades, shmrades. Who needs 'em? Just kidding. I need good grades, I just switched, so my grades are fantastic. And since the year is over, it's definitely not going to change." He grinned. He could tell he was going to like his new home if everybody was as nice as Dean. Toby could use some friends outside of his brothers and he definitely wanted to just hang out. It'd be a nice change to hang out with new people as much as he loved his family. Toby was just so excited about this place and he couldn't contain his excitement. He just wanted to be moving, running, something. He didn't want to just stand here. He flipped the ball into his hands with his foot and dribbled it a bit. He could not hold still.
Toby rolled his eyes and replied, "My mom says the same thing!" He smiled while still dribbling his basketball. He rolled it around his shoulders, showing off just a bit. Toby liked to show off his talents and if he was outside, he'd be skating and talking at the same time. He was working on flips with his skateboard right now. It took a lot of time and his mom insisted that he wore his helmet when he practiced those. It bugged him but he did as she wished because he knew it was safer for him. "The're dorks anyways. Ha. Just kidding. They're coo' but they don't go out of their way to talk to random people, especially since none of us know anybody but each other... Well I guess I know you too now but yeah. They're not quite as outgoing as I am. Ha!" Toby rolled the ball on his shoulders again and then dribbled between his legs, moving in a circle. He couldn't deny that he was antsy but at least he wasn't stupidly antsy. Toby did stuff that was pretty cool when he was antsy. "That's awesome! What position do you play in basketball? I'm shooting guard, 'cause I'm too short for center! I can't decide between basketball, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I'm hoping to learn how to surf since I live in Florida now! There's no surfing in Utah!" He grinned again. Why was he so antsy?
